Rural Manitoba

Board a motor coach and leave the city behind with one of our Manitoba Tour Packages. Sit back and enjoy as your tour guide takes you through Manitoba’s rich countryside. Around 12,000 years ago, most of Manitoba was covered under the immense prehistoric Lake Agassiz – and we’ve had problems with flooding ever since! Visit the Ste. Agathe Flood Interpretive Centre to see how floods have affected the Red River region over the past thousands of years, and how Manitobans have mitigated or succumbed to their ravaging effects.

Continue your tour to the Mennonite town of Steinbach and its Heritage Village Museum. The museum’s 40-acre complex spreads out from a street reminiscent of the Mennonite villages found in southern Manitoba in the late 1880s, a time when approximately 8,000 Mennonites moved to Manitoba to settle the vast amounts of inexpensive farmland available. The museum features century-old dwellings, a church and a school, all of which are furnished accurately to period specifications. Enjoy a traditional Mennonite lunch before touring the complex.

A geographically diverse province, Manitoba is known for its rich and fertile soil, and its varied crops – canola, wheat, soy, and many other crops thrive in Manitoban soil. See these crops first-hand as you travel through the Manitoban countryside. On your return trip to the city, enjoy a stop at Apple Seeds – a unique gift shop in Niverville carrying beautiful jewellery, hand-made trinkets and a variety of hand-crafted gifts from local artisans.
