Manitoba is home to the largest Francophone community west of the Great Lakes. This one-and-a-half hour walking tour will take you through St. Boniface, Winnipeg’s historic French Quarter. St. Boniface is located just a stone’s throw across the river from downtown Winnipeg, yet has a very distinctive culture and history all of its own. Visit this vibrant community and hear about its historic struggles, its successes and its legendary joie de vivre (love of life), and take in some of the beautiful architecture that makes St. Boniface truly unique on the Canadian landscape. Stops for this tour include St. Boniface Cathedral, one of the most photographed landmarks in Manitoba, and the old St. Boniface City Hall building, which also served as a police station and jail at the turn of the century and shows signs of its former tenants to this day.
